The Sawdust Alpaca Farm is widely spread over an area of 15 acres and is a working farm with cashmere goats, cats, chickens, llamas and alpacas. If you enjoy being at one with nature then this tranquil environment is definitely worth a visit if you are in the Poulsbo area. The farm began with just a basic herd but has expanded over the years to become one of the region’s top visitor attractions. The multitude of animals they now have are fortunate enough to have a huge pasture area where alpaca’s herds and llamas can live and grow in calming surroundings that are very close to their natural habitat. These animals have proved to be one of the farm’s most worthy investments and continue to breed, increasing the herd further for the pleasure of visitors of all ages. In addition, there is no need to employ a gardener to mow the lawns here as the animals take care of this by grazing from the land.
One of the Alpaca Farm farm’s favorites is Maynard, who was one of the first llamas on the farm and is known affectionately as “Mr. Personality” due to his good nature and amusing antics. Visitors to the farm will be greeted by him as they arrive at the entrance gates where he loves to meet new people and welcome them with his unique llama “kisses”. This particular breed adapt very well in any situation and seem to enjoy being around children but they are particularly entranced by women especially those wearing perfume and the more intense the scent, the more excited they are to welcome female guests. They love tuna fish and at the farm you can observe them enjoying this meal and even feed them yourselves if you really want to get up close and personal with this fascinating creatures.
The farm also has a gift shop selling a variety of different products including a variety of outdoor clothing such as mittens, hats, sweaters, gloves, jackets, all made from raw fiber and natural yarns. You can also purchase other souvenirs like key rings, stuffed toys, mugs and other products to take home with you to remind you of your trip. These are all very reasonably priced and there is something to suit everyone regardless of your tastes or budget. The friendly staff on the farm are also widely available across the property to tell you more about the animals and are available to answer any additional queries you may have. The farm also has a breeding program so you can observe the male stud’s of the group that are specially selected as the strongest and healthiest of the species to enhance the next generation to produce the highest quality off spring. The farm is also one of only two in Washington State that are permitted to raise and breed miniature llamas, which have proven to be another popular attraction with visitors to the farm.
